The lake that lay between Yinsley and the wash of power might as well have been a puddle. It grated and annoyed him. Scraping against his barriers and raising his ire. The servants had mostly fled. Cowering in some dark place he would never think to look. Doors barred by salt or dirt or both to keep him away. Not that he needed to cross any thresholds in order to kill them all.

Just a thought. A fancy. A whim.

Gritting his teeth he stepped out of the front door. The sun was a bright flaw on the horizon, causing his eyes to squint. The landing web on the front lawn hummed as he stepped onto it and fed it a little power. There was an answering thrum from Walcourt, the webs linked by design and paired, clear jewels. The Winds were easy enough to ride, but he didn't like it. He had to pay attention, focus on the one point he wanted or risk finding himself elsewhere.

Possibly somewhere dirty or surrounded by people. Or nowhere at all.

It was stronger here, their Walcourt residence rising up before him. Clean and dimly lit. The city stretched around it, filthy and full of life. Too many psychic scents. Too much pressure against his barriers. All that life. All that fear. And the undulating power that coursed through the Abyss from the territory seat. Cursing, Yinsley pulled a cigarette from his pocket and lit it with the engraved lighter he'd received as a bride.

Cherry glowing and smoke curling around his jaw, Yinsley took the steps up to the house and all but threw himself inside. As if the walls could protect him from the incessant clawing along his barriers.

"Vitaliy?!" He barked, their father's whining fresh in his memory. As if the man couldn't ride a steady Wind with his Green. As if his brother was still nothing more than a toddler needing constant supervision. Not that Yinsley had ever been a good caretaker or playmate for his little brother. Expectations. Family. Something of that sort. "Still alive?" He called, grinding the quickly inhaled cigarette into a well placed ashtray, ignoring the servant that had slunk out of no where to stare at him.

Filthy peasants.

Growling he wrapped the house in a shield. It was lazily constructed, but held.
Blocking out the worst of it. It was like being underwater. Everything was muffled,
 gentler.

Vitaliy felt it the moment his brother hit the Landing Web.  Impossible to miss that much undisciplined power.  Just what he didn't need right now.  Whatever had happened at the Territory Seat had everyone in a tizzy, and he'd spent more time than he cared to think about keeping the servants calm and trying to figure out what in the name of Mother Night was going on.  The last thing he needed was his brother showing up and setting everyone off again.  Well, best deal with this quickly, and hopefully pack his brother back off to the country house so Vitaliy could deal with the real work.

"I'm here," he said, coming down the main stairs.  "No need to shout.  Can I help you with something?"

He shot a quick glance at the servant and sent to the man on a private spear thread Away.  I'll deal with him.  All of you stay out of sight until I call you  Not that he had any particular affection for the family's servants, but replacing them was expensive.  And another complication he really didn't want to have to deal with at the moment.  At least until he'd dealt with the current one.  He felt the ragged shield settle around the house and stifled an annoyed sigh.  That was pure Yinsley, always trying to cut off the rest of the world.  Never mind that without Vitaliy's work in that world Yin hated so much there would be no money to support Yin's indolent lifestyle.  Ah well, as long as it kept him out of Vitaliy's hair, he saw no reason to cut off his brother's income.

That he couldn't, officially, was a minor annoyance, but one he had plans to deal with.  Hopefully soon.

Yinsley stuck his hands in his pockets, watching his brother creep down the stairs. Sometimes he could not reconcile the youth with the baby. Half expecting to see a toddler stumbling down the steps. Vitaliy was quieter now than he had been as a child. Strangely serious, really. Aeon thought he was cute, Yinsley knew.

"Father sent me." Was the shrugged reply to the utterly formal question. As if he were some salesman come to call rather than family. Not that Yinsley quiet understood what family meant. He had vague notions just out of reach. But he remembered, warm comforting hands. Bird thing and gentle. A swelling sort of feeling. He just couldn't seem to dredge it up in response to the males of his line.

The servant left, and Yinsley frowned, pulling his hands from his pockets and examining the empty palms there.

"He didn't bring me a drink." He commented to no one specifically. It was unsettling. Someone always brought him a drink. Or made sure, at the very laziest least, that there was something near at hand for him to serve himself. He had received much better service the last time he'd been into the city. When that strange fellow had been shouting at the neighbor.

"He was afraid you were being murdered, with all that-" he made a gesture to the outside, long pale fingers gyrating in the air with agitation, "-going on." And too afraid to come himself, Yinsley sneered. Funny how the man cringed whenever he saw Yinsley's Ebon-grey, but had no qualms in using it. It was put away, for now, power siphoned from it though it hid in his cabinet. Only the Sapphire hung from his neck.

Vitaly suppressed a sigh.  Of course their father had sent Yinsley.  Probably was still trying to get some use out of that self-absorbed prick and thought sending him here to mess up Vitaly's day would somehow accomplish that.  "Father worries too much," was all he said as he finished coming down the stairs.

"Why don't we retire to the study,' he continued, to head off his brother's whining about the servant not bringing a drink.  As if they had nothing more important to do than cater to his whims.  Then again, Vitaly had to admit, that had always been how things had worked growing up.  He supposed it wasn't surprising that his brother hadn't changed on that account.  "I have a very good bottle of whiskey in there.  And we can sit and talk about exactly what has Father so worried."

Not that Vitaly didn't have a pretty good idea.  He was more than aware at least in abstract what was going on, but he needed to know what others thought was happening, if he was to make the best long-term plans on how to capitalize on it.
