Tell me does it scare you
That I'm living my dream?

Ghislaine had been kind enough to let her dear, darling steward sleep off whatever hangover he’d acquired from the night before. It was a kindness that she rarely extended when she had court business to attend to but she was feeling generous. Generous and not at all wanting to deal with Vincent snarling at her today. It was too peaceful and too lovely a morning for that. Not that she had any choice in the matter if her steward threw a fit.

She wouldn't give him the chance or excuse if she could help it. Her sunroom was not for bickering with pissy males or leashing them. Especially not ones she invited for a cup of tea and a chance to enjoy the morning calm while discussing plans for her gala.

Humming and leg swinging, Ghislaine watched her handmaidens and servants flit around with an indulgent smile. Silly little things the lot of them but they could be entertaining and even useful with their chatter. They certainly kept the cats amused. Which was something at least. Pity she couldn't allow them to hang around to distract Vincent. She needed the man's full attention.

Speak of the devil.

Stirring a spoonful of honey into her tea, Ghislaine regarded the newly arrived warlord prince with the same sleepy, indulgent smile she gave her handmaidens. At least he'd made it in some fashion. "Good morning, Prince." Ghislaine's voice was entirely too chipper for the early hour and the eruption of whispers and giggles from the ladies sprawled on the couches around her. How many of them had he chased? She wasn't certain she wanted to know. "Ladies. Please excuse us, Prince Whiteash and I have business to discuss."

The lot were shameless. A gaggle of sighs, half hearted protests and giggles as they left with barely hidden looks at Vincent. Maybe she'd send them all back to their parents before they got into trouble. Or to one of the district courts until they learned their manners. She'd consider the idea more later. For now they were gone, down the hallway to make faces at the guards and avoid their lessons no doubt.

"Tea?" she offered helpfully gesturing to the full pot on the table. "There are also scones and cakes. I can have something else brought up if you'd prefer." Neutral ground built on an offering of food and peace. Now to see if it worked. "We can discuss business once you've had something to eat."

Vincent felt groggy.  Groggy and he had one hell of a pounding in his head.  He groaned as he turned over from the light tap on his door.  "I'm up, I'm up."  He waved his hand at the door and sat up.  He couldn't remember what happened after he left Analise last night.  If he bothered to open his eyes he'd figure that he strip and went to bed.

However, the light that came in from his bedroom window glared at him and made him squint.  He grabbed for what he thought were pants and put them on.  Luckily they were.  He opened the door, his eyes still squinting, "Yes?" he asked, his mouth dry and feeling like sand was in his throat.  He closed the door swiftly after he was given the message.  He was quite awake now.  Lady Summerden requested his presence.  His jaw clenched, as did his hands.  She was going to berate him again.

He frowned.  Analise wouldn't be there, he hoped anyways.  He opened a small box with a preservation spell on it and pulled a vial out.  The brew was concentrated and just needed to be added to some hot water.  He'd received this kit from his sister, and kept it stocked.  He had one hell of a hangover and it needed to disappear fast.  He jumped in the shower as he set some water in cup to boil over Witchfire.

He dressed simply today, a plain dress shirt and slacks.  He downed the brew after adding it to the hot water quickly.  It tasted as awful as all the healer's brews he'd tasted.  He then took his time making his way down to her sun room.  He put on a polite smile he bowed and gave her as confident of a smirk as he could, "Good morning, Lady Summerden."  Vincent looked his Queen over.  Laid back, no aggression, relaxed.  He could handle this.  He avoided looking directly at any of the gaggle of ladies in the room, other than a quick glance to see if Analise was there.  She wasn't, his heart calmed.

He was certain Analise wanted him, but he was now worried due to Analise herself saying it that Lady Summerden would forbid them...  He turned his attention completely back to his Queen and approached her lazily.  He ignored the ladies in the room as much as possible as they passed him.  He didn't think there was a one in there he hadn't at least kissed once or twice.  A few had even let him go farther.  That didn't matter though.  He'd been ordered to behave.  So he had.  Except with Analise.  He sat across from Lady Summerden gently, the full affects of the brew he'd taken not quite dulling the headache yet.

Business.  That's what she needed, but of what kind Vincent didn't know.  That made him worry more.  He wasn't quite awake yet and his mind wasn't quite prepared for verbal dueling.  He smiled genuinely as she offered tea.  "Thank you," he spoke as he poured himself a cup, a bit of cream and three cubes of sugar were added.  "Scones are fine, there's no need to trouble anyone."  He stirred and sipped his tea calmly.  Did she know about Analise?  Was she going to tell him to back off?  He felt like a school boy about to be told to stop playing with the new girl so roughly.

He gently picked up a scone, deftly sliced it with a knife, smearing butter and jam between it.  He watched some of the cats move around.  Curious little creatures it seemed.  He wanted to head off any trouble he could be in.  He took a bite then looked at Lady Summerden. He swallowed then spoke, "So Analise is an interesting new addition to the Court wouldn't you say?"

Tell me does it scare you
That I'm living my dream?

Hot cardamom and cinnamon greeted her as she lifted her cup to sip and Ghislaine considered Vincent quietly from over the golden rim of the cup. Still moving as gingerly as ever around her but with proper respect, she supposed she should have been flattered. Maybe the last spat had settled him after all. But even that was being too generous, too quickly. It could very well be the hangover keeping him mild for now.

Attention momentarily focused on polishing off the last of a scone, Ghislaine gave a noncommittal hum at Vincent's thanks. She butted heads with him often enough but he was still under her care. Which meant making certain he ate something to sustain himself. Of course with the shift to Analise, Ghislaine's full attention was on Vincent again.

"Yes, I suppose she is. Analise has proven herself quite capable thus far." Ghislaine answered lightly. Most curious that he had gone right to asking about Analise. She would have to play along for the moment to see just how much Vincent was willing to let slip. "Have you had a chance to meet her since she's gotten settled, Prince?" her head titled slightly, "If you haven't I'll have to see that she gets a break to explore. Perhaps you could even show her around the manor? It'd be a shame for her to get lost in the gardens on her way to dinner." Perfectly innocent questions for perfectly innocent probing but the bait was set. Dangling and accompanied by a practiced nonchalance.

Taking another delicate sip of her tea, Ghislaine waited for a heartbeat before continuing. "There is also the matter of my birthday gala and the preparations for that." Which truly was the main reason she had invited him down here. Analise had simply proven to be a good distraction that she would have to investigate further. "It's still a few weeks away but I'm sure you understand that I cannot afford for it to be less than perfect."

He desperately desired to take his foot out of his mouth.  She hadn't asked yet Vincent found himself trying to get ahead of...of what?  He took a moment and breathed in, then out.  Vincent simply needed to be upfront with her.  She was his Queen wasn't she?  Maybe not his heart Queen, but still the Queen he served none the less.  No one was watching them so he could let down his guard a little bit.  He was taking the chance to anyways.

She then told him exactly why he was here.  He took a sip of the tea to buy some time.  He really had put his foot in his mouth. "I've met her on several occasions actually," he wasn't sure how much she knew already, if any, so he'd be honest.  That would work out for the best he hoped, "She found her way to my office, which surprised me to say the least.  She allowed me to escort her to lunch since she wasn't familiar with the area..."  He took another sip as he tried to put into words how he was feeling.  It was something he didn't do often.  "Yesterday we went to dinner.  I promise nothing has happened more than a few kisses."  He felt nervous now, noted by the sweat on his brow, "I just want to try courting her but it's very new and I didn'tknowwhat to do," he spoke quickly, his face turning beat red.

"Yes, of course your Gala, has to be perfect in every way." Vincent was grabbing for anything, sure he was going to die of embarrassment simply from having this discussion with the woman who controlled his life.  "I think you sent me a folder, have it here..."  He called it in, opening it and pulling the contents out quickly.  He hadn't realized that he'd pulled the wrong folder out until he'd already laid the papers on the table.  To say he was flustered would be an understatement.

The nervous jittering was actually a bit endearing though Ghislaine didn't dare say so out loud. No need to entice him to hiss at her when he was much more pleasant when genuinely distracted by explaining how he hadn't done anything more than a few kisses with Analise. "Oh? I'm so happy to see that the two of you are getting along, especially given your interest in her now." Ghislaine was hiding amusement behind her tea cup as she looked Vincent over again. He was definitely more pleasant to be around in this state.

Even if he had forgotten how to do his job completely as was made evident by the sprawl of papers pertaining to Lady Lakes and not her gala.

"You must be quite taken with her if you have her file so close at hand, Vincent." She couldn't keep the amusement out of her voice or off her face anymore. Vincent trying to Court her apprentice, herapprentice. Really it was too cute and too comical. "Have you found out anything interesting about her?" Ghislaine was grinning now as she teased Vincent and put the papers back before closing the folder.

"Perhaps we should discuss your...infatuation with Analise before we get to party preparations. It might make this a bit easier." Well a bit easier and more entertaining for her. Ghislaine was fairly certain Vincent was about to keep over from the subject of Analise. Which meant it was something she needed to poke at more.

For Vincent's sake of course.

That was what she'd tell herself and anyone that asked. It was all for Vincent and Analise. Not at all for her amusement or something she could leverage against them later if need be. Setting her leg to swinging lazily again, she fixed Vincent with a smile. "If you want to court my apprentice then you'll have to do it right or not at all. I'll not have you ruining her like the others you've fixated on in the past." she still had stacks of complaints sitting in a drawer for all the others Vincent had gone after and she had no interest in adding another. "She's not a toy for you to discard the moment you get past a few kisses, Vincent, do I make myself clear?"

His handkerchief found his forehead as he dabbed the sweat from it quickly.  He'd pulled the wrong folder out at exactly the wrong time.  He felt like a child in his mother's room again, being scolded.  Not that Lady Summerden was scolding him, but it felt awfully familiar and made his stomach twist a little bit.

"Well, I've found out she doesn't eat meat and I'm questioning her actual age..." Vincent hated his sudden attempt to be honest.  He wanted to bite back what he had just said.  It was too late though and he knew it. "There was a discrepancy on the forms I clarified with her but...I just don't know, something seems funny about some of the paperwork I have..."

He sighed and put his hand over his eyes, wiping down his face.  He didn't like feeling cornered, even less so did he like showing weakness to anyone except his sister.

"I don't think it's infatuation...I have a genuine interest in her.  I just...I don't know how to pursue that properly.  I don't date really.  If that stack of complaints was any indication I have a lot of work to," Vincent swallowed, hard.  He took a breath in and then out.  "I have a lot of work to do to be the right person for Analise, and should that not work out, any other lady that catches my eye." Vincent hoped it worked out, but with his track recorded, his usual smile fell.

How could he be the kind of man that he'd first been when he knew Josey? He had made so many mistakes and now he felt the crushing weight of them early in the morning with his Queen.  Vincent looked down at his empty plate and started thinking of all the things he'd done wrong in the last few years.

"Crystal clear, Lady...but how...what..."  Vincent's eyes scrunched up as he asked for help.  He didn't like asking for help and now he was at a crossroads that he couldn't stay at.  He had to move forward but he didn't know how.  There was a flicker of aggravation from Vincent as his mind turned and turned.

That I'm living my dream?

Patience and amusement had been her greatest gifts this morning in equal measure. Patience while Vincent stumbled along and squirmed, amusement at just how well behaved Vincent was when they weren’t at constant odds with each other. Ghislaine could only hope that the relatively good behaviour wouldn’t end too soon. She was certainly enjoying this side of Vincent and his company much more than she had enjoyed his company at any previous turn at the very least.

“A question of paperwork is interesting.” She noted, head tilting, “One that we will have to puzzle out with Lady Lakes’s help soon, I’m sure.” That was an issue for another day of course. Ghislaine wouldn’t pry too deeply into her apprentice’s secrets just yet. There could be a perfectly innocent explanation for it or something less than innocent but that would be for another time. Vincent’s interest in Analise might actually turn to their favor if the girl’s intentions and ambitions turned toward the latter.

Ghislaine sipped her tea and waited while Vincent stumbled over words. She had figured as much from all the complaints and broken hearts she’d seen Vincent trample. To hear him admit that out loud however was another thing. “Are you asking me for dating advice, Vincent?” There was a grin playing across her lips and she set the tea cup down to reach across the space to pat his arm. Ghislaine was amused if nothing else by his attempt to ask for help which meant she was going to milk the opportunity for all it was worth. “We women are not so much the same that what appeals to me would appeal to Analise.” More gentle teasing as she settled back again. “Gifts and geninue attention, Prince. Gifts, geninue attention and space when the lady so desires it. The rest will come in it’s own time.”

Vincent nodded, watching the Lady carefully.  His eyes were similar to a child's filled with wonder and embarrassment. He listened intently to ensure he wasn't over stepping his bounds.  However his cheeks burned as he realized he actually did ask the Queen for dating advice.

He was about to speak when he realized she was teasing him.  It made his cheeks burn just a bit brighter as she patted him. It actually helped him relax a bit which he found surprising. Vincent's eyes widened as Ghislaine gave him actual advice he could use. His mouth opened and closed like a fish before he mimicked her words.

"Gifts and genuine attention. And space." He nodded, "I'll be able to do that..." Vincent didn't sound so certain. He wished his sister were here, she'd definitely know exactly what he needed to do.  "I'll try my best." He nodded, the demeanor of confidence coming back as he asserted his course of action.

"I...think we have a birthday celebration to plan," It was obvious Vincent was trying to change the subject.
