Sylvia Frey

The Basics

Full Name: Sylvia Frey
Age: 28 as of AW103
Gender/Pronouns: Female She/Her

Ethnicity: Challiotian – medium lived
Birthplace: Chaillot
Current Location: Beldon Mor, Chaillot
Profession: Chaillot Queen

Caste: Hearth Queen
Birthright Jewel: Summer-sky (CUT 54)
Offering Jewel: Opal (CUT 50)

Face Claim: Adelaide Kane

The Body

Height: 5’5
Body Type: Slender
Hair Color: Dark brown
Eye Color: Hazel

Appearance:
With dark features, but with light skin, there might have been a hint of a darker race generations ago in Sylvia’s lineage. Her long dark hair is kept long, soft and smooth as her skin. It would be loosely styled to keep strands out of her face and during working days it will be pinned up or braided. Her attire is a mixture of gowns fit for a Queen of beautiful gowns she insists on designing and partaking in assembling herself or for a Heart witch. Sweaters and trousers or woollen gowns for the cold seasons. Many of her own knitted and sewn garments, at least half of the time nothing matches. Only for parties and gatherings she is expected to be Queen does she make more of an effort. Her Summer-sky jewel is set on a ring on her finger and her Opal in a silver necklace, long enough to be hidden if need be.

She has no notable scars, but if looking relatively close or touching her fingertips, it may be noticeable a few scratches or pinpricks from her pastimes. Or perhaps even a cobweb in her hair and dust on her clothes unable to control the urge to clean. While not completely short, she is of average height like many Challiotians. But make herself appear shorter in attempts to shrink away from any awkward situation.

The Mind

Craft Strengths: 15pts

Boundary Alarms
Physical Shields
Scent Cleansing
Calming Touch
Spell Weaving
Reading the Land
Craft Weaknesses: Combat craft, all other Shield craft, specifically Physic shields and Physical craft.

Personal Strengths: Exceptionally good at knitting (especially ugly sweaters!) and sewing, and gardening.
Personal Weaknesses: A bit of a clutz. Not that great with dealing with men. Horse riding.

Personality:
Sylvia is a kind hearted woman who is happiest in her gardens or sitting beside a fire knitting. One might not think that she could make a good Queen and perhaps more suited to a homely life, but she can feel the land and has the strong desire to heal it from the past. At least in her terms, clean it. She feels the pressure everyday of being a good Queen, that is if the council allow it. Being a young new Queen results in errors and awkward situations as her lighter jewels are normally no match for the men in the court. Having not grown up with her brother, being around men is something she is still getting used to and at most fails. She can be a bit of a clutz in some of these situations, but is desperately trying to find her backbone to rule as Queen.

In her attempt to be better, she becomes frustrated with those who try to control her. Though in early days she has come to love the people and care for them, especially intending to cleanse the land of all the past that stained it. To balance herself she does try to relax with a good book or let her hair down once in a while and actually have fun for she loves it when it snows does her best to sneak out into it for a snowball fight.

The Backstory

Family:
  • Clyde | Father | White to Rose Warlord
  • Rhona | Mother | Purple Dusk to Opal Healer
  • Cassandra | Sister | Summer-sky to Opal Healer (Missing, presumed dead)
  • Blair | Half-Brother | Tiger Eye to Summer-sky Prince

History:

Born to a mother from Kaeleer and a father whom her mother had followed to Challiot yet, she knows little about, Sylvia was second in the world after her twin sister. From the moment she was born she was in her sister’s shadow. They were both named after women in history that her mother so adored. Her mother, though not rich, still had enough to give them a pleasant life and education. Never had they thought that either girl would actually be a Queen, but that’s what it was. For Sylvia though she would always be a Hearth witch. Despite being different to her sister, they were close. Cassandra was a little socialite and expected greatness, while Sylvia would have been happy to not have to think about ever being a Queen.

Neither sister were upset with their lighter jewels as they both came away with the same Summer-sky jewel at the age of 10, however no father to claim them. They struggled in society and could have considered poor compared to the other aristos, however Cassandra certainly proved them wrong with her earnest to study and to rise. Lucky, or unlucky for her, Sylvia rose with her, just enough to be consideration for an apprenticeship with a province Queen in Willowby.

Sylvia always felt out of place and saw this world more suitable to her sister and considering the council of Beldon Mor continued to desire Queens they could essentially control the sisters were in their sights having light jewels and smaller ambition than others. By the time they made the offering to the Darkness and both came away with Opal, Cassandra was apprenticed with the Territory Queen Moire and showing great potential, and still Sylvia was forever in her shadow. She even fared better in their Virgin Nights, as Sylvia considered the whole situation rather awkward considering her inexperience with men and the men having been picked for them by the council. Sylvia never held any contempt towards her sister as she was proud of her and quite happy not being in the spotlight, and even looking forward to serve with her sister being a Province or District Queen. However, that was not to be.

In a time of need, her sister had rushed to ride the Winds for a healing unescorted and was never heard from again. Did she use a lighter jewel to ride the Winds and became lost? Or perhaps it had been a trap? Or even used too much of herself in the healing and was broken somewhere? Either way, the Territory had lost its apprentice Queen and all of a sudden, Sylvia felt all eyes on her. She was no Healer for the lands, but would in fact be easier to control by the men.

Saddened by her sister’s absence she felt she had bigger shoes to fill, not just her sister’s who all adored her, but Queen Moire’s as well. Despite the anxiety she felt from such a responsibility, she felt she owed it for her sister. And when the aging Queen died, Sylvia was forced to step up and immediately had to decide who she could trust as it became a struggle between controlling men and doing what is right for the people. In her time of need, there was one she could trust, a kindred, a young Sceltie who warmed her bed on cold nights and protected her from her loneliness, because being a new Queen she was going to need all the help she could get.

Roleplay Sample:
Alyson hated it here, she was quiet much of the way to Goldhall. She still had no idea what their punishment would be for stirring up waves between their families. She could count how many times she had been close to or through Goldhall on one hand, and having little memory of her visits save for how much she disliked the area with how opposite it was to Dorsette and Faegarden. What she always remembered though and what was reminded to her as they dear close was the massive mountain behind Goldhall. She had always wanted to climb it and explore, but she didn't entirely want to face the mines.

Her father only spent one day and one night, discussing mostly in private with Rex's father. They had caught up with Sir Maurice who relayed other pieces of information to the events that had led to a rift between the families. His men and Rex's men also gave their accounts for the Lords to hear both sides of witnesses. Alyson's departure was going to be delayed. Two of Sir Maurice's men remained behind to escort Alyson home when she was able. For this morning she found herself trudging up to the dreaded mines.

The intention was to return home with her father, but alas an incident had happened with her mare and she had the option of staying with her mare for a week or leave on another horse and wait for her mare to be sent back later. But she didn't trust anyone in Goldkeep, her poor mare could easily be sent back in pieces. Rex had missed the incident having already left for the mines, and upon asking where the Lord was, Alyson was now stomping up to find him.

She was wearing a long flowing tunic like travelling dress that split at the front to reveal breaches underneath and boots on her feet. Her hair was once again braided back down her back. She had her sword, and dagger strapped to her belt and her staff in her hand as it gave aid to climbing up into the mines. She did indeed recognise a few of the people she passed who worked the mines, but for now she couldn't think about it. Once she was pointed in the right direction, the big oaf was easy to spot.

He would easily spot her coming his way with all her greenery and that angry bitch face he was likely used to even in the short time they'd known one another. Upon reaching him, she pointed at him with the whack of her staff to his chest. "You...your stupid fucking stallion! Broke out and ruined my mare! Not once, but twice! Now I have to wait a week until I can return home." She removed her staff from him and held it beside her, resting the end on the ground. "My father has already left." She grumbled. "He said that I should take this opportunity to learn more of your people, which might benefit in the future, whatever that fucking means. So here I am!"
