@dergon

The cold was clearly making her antsy. That was the only explanation Itzelian could give for why she’d bought a gift for Mornivar of all people and why she’d spent the better part of a week wearing holes into her floor with pacing. It should have been easy. Just give him the damned thing and walk away. But there was still the nagging at the back of her mind. Was it too much or too forward to offer Winsol gifts before Winsol? Especially to her would-be escort? Or would that be giving the wrong impression? The wrong idea that Itzelian was not keen on seeing the outcome of.

At least not in a way that she wanted to admit to or could admit to without turning into a sputtering mess.

Maybe it would be better to just hide the thing away, bury the new cloak in the depths of her own wardrobe and pretend that she hadn’t had it made for someone else in the first place. She could always wait until Winsol actually arrived and leave it somewhere for him to find. That would solve all her problems wouldn’t it? Just leave the thing somewhere or get the maids to slip it into his room.

Problems easily solved when she could think straight and not fret over her cat shedding all over the thing or what troubles presenting a gift to Morn could bring her way. None of those problems were solved hiding in her room however and Itzelian had had enough of hiding. She just had to remind herself of that some days. Like today while she’d bundled up the possible ill advised gift and gone off to track down Morn.

Itzelian was still reminding herself of that even when she had found Mornivar, fidgeting with the dark bundle of cloth in hand in a vain attempt to steady herself before she finally approached, thrusting the thing forward and trying not to look at Morn. “Peace offering?” Yes. Peace offering. Better than labeling it as anything resembling a winsol gift at any rate.

Only a dead man wouldn’t have felt her coming. Nervous energy washing the halls. Queen scent rushing toward him. Morn pretended he did not notice. A smattering of guards forming a crescent around him as he handed out shifts. These few were his. A test on how well he could train and control men. A way to prove his usefulness to the higher circles. At her approach, they scattered on Morn’s command. They had their tasks. And he had a queenling to deal with.

Posture forcibly relaxed, Morn turned a practice smile on Itzelian, which turned to a confused one as she thrust something at him. Wings widening defensively, he shifted his weight and caught the bundle, eyebrows winging upward in surprise. Morn looked at the whatever it was, and then at the queen. ”I didn’t know we were at war, lady.”  The smirk back in his smile as he reassessed and adapted to the situation.

Thumb caressing fabric, he edged a little closer. ”Should I open it now, or is it best done in private?” One eyebrow dropping so the other was raised at her suggestively. She was a very strange creature. All puffed up dignity and wound up nerves. Morn was dead certain she needed a good fucking to settle her down. Take all those virgin worries off her shoulders and give her something more pleasant to think about and enjoy. Namely, himself.

“No. Not exactly...” Being at war would’ve made all of this easier. Would’ve made it easier for her not to hear the traitorous little whisper that reminded her that she really didn’t have to avoid Morn. He hadn’t really given her cause to be this jumpy and on edge.

Ah, there he was. Closer now and staring right at her and she sputtered. So much for not looking at him.

In private. The suggestion in it all drew another strangled sputter, cheeks flushing and Itzelian’s throat worked, swallowing down the urge to flee hard. “You...you can do whatever you want!” Her voice was a squeak, rising higher when it dawned on her exactly what she’d said. “With that I mean! You can do whatever you want with that.” Oh Mother Night she’d made a mistake. She should’ve left it for the maids to deal with or someone else. Someone that was not her.

“It’s your gift so w-why would I have any say in what you do with it...” Less of a squeak now, cheeks still burning.

"Not exactly?" Morn repeated, lifting an eyebrow in question. He'd never met a more difficult woman. That she was a queen, meant to soothe tempers and, supposedly, to rule, amused and frustrated Mornivar. He never felt anything but riled in her presence. Probably because she was so uneasy in his.

Like now. Stuttering and sputtering. Blushing like a little girl. Morn smirked. He didn't understand what made her so flustered, but he was equal parts amused, flattered, and annoyed by it.

"Can I?" Eyebrows lifting in tandem. Itzelian didn't like that. Quick to back track and make sure Morn knew he could do whatever he pleased with his new present. Not with her. As if he'd ever dream she meant anything like that. "I figured. No need to be so defensive." Strange ass queenling. Morn pressed his lips together to keep them from twitching into a scowl or a smile.

"I was just asking, in case the nature of the gift was one that shouldn't be flapped about in hallways." Which was where all their awkward encounters seemed to him. Probably because it was the only place she ever let him get near her. Not waiting for answer, Morn tore the paper open and shook out what was inside. Cloak spilling out and filling the air between them.

"Very nice, lady, thank you." He said in surprise.
